Each model is being designed as a stable capability profile. Its identity can remain recognisable while the eligible intelligence, tools and evaluations beneath it develop.

Instars
The model remains. Its intelligence develops.
Every honey bee belongs to the genus Apis, and each of our models is named for one of its species. A bee grows the way these models do: through instars, the stages it passes through between one moult and the next. An Instar is a major generation of a Velto model. The name tells you what kind of intelligence it is. The Instar tells you how far it has developed.

The intended gateway
One model name. The right eligible route.
A product should be able to request a Velto model without being rebuilt every time the intelligence beneath it changes. The planned gateway keeps that interface stable, then applies the model's contract, permissions, context, tools and fallback rules.

The most capable route is not automatically the right route. The system is being designed to choose the depth that the task earns, then measure whether the work was actually completed well.

Development
Every Instar must earn its advancement.
An Instar is a model's next major generation, and it is never simply announced. A candidate moves forward through evaluation, controlled testing, limited use and measured evidence. A route that degrades loses traffic, falls back or stops. Progress is the work becoming more reliable, not the name becoming larger.
